Grade 6 PYP Exhibition Goals – Week 7 Acting and Sharing

 Grade 6 have now started week 7 of the Exhibition! During this week the students will share their Visual Section down at the Elementary School on Wednesday and Thursday.  On Friday at the Middle School theatre they will share their Creative element.

By Wednesday you should have:

  • Completed/brought in everything you need for the visual and expressive parts of the Exhibition.
  • Created a list of different ways that you could take action as a result of your learning and started to take some action.

 

By the end of the week you should have:

  • Written a weekly reflection about the sharing (visual and expressive presentation) process.

Grade 6 PYP Exhibition Goals Week 6 –  Acting and Sharing

  Grade 6 have now started week 6 of the Exhibition! During this week the students will work on their expressive & visual section in preparation for next week.

By the end of the week you should have:

  • Created a title page for the final stage of the Exhibition.
  • Finished the script for your expressive section.
  • Begun to present the visual section of your Exhibition by looking at the Visual Section rubric.
  • Started to think about ways that you could take action as a result of your learning.
  • Created a rubric for your expressive section.
  • Written a reflection after your mentor meeting and a weekly reflection.

Grade 6 PYP Exhibition Week 5 – Synthesising and Connecting

 Grade 6 have now started week 5 of the Exhibition! During this week the students will continue to process their information in order to reach some ‘big understandings’. They will also begin to think about how they will share what they have learnt with the rest of the ISM community in both a visual and an expressive way.

 

By the end of the week you should have:

  • Completed a mid-point self-assessment, shared it with your parents and brought it back to school.

  • Thought of a colour, symbol and image to represent the ‘big idea’ behind your inquiry.

  • Reflected on the knowledge and understandings that you now have in relation to your inquiry points and concepts.

  • Shared your knowledge and understandings within your group.

  • Been peer assessed to determine how ‘expert’ you are about your inquiry.

  • Produced a plan for your expressive section and started writing a script.

  • Started to plan your visual section.

  • Written a reflection after your mentor meeting and a weekly reflection.

Grade 6 PYP Exhibition Week 4 – Synthesising and Connecting

 Grade 6 have now started week 4 of the Exhibition! During this week the students will continue to process their information in order to reach some ‘big understandings’.   

By the end of the week you should have:

 

  • Completed a social skills nomination form
  • Added new knowledge/understandings to your concept map
  • Synthesised what you have learnt using the Our Process Sheet
  • Thought of headlines that show your big ideas/understandings
  • Graphed the data from your surveys and drawn conclusions
  • Written a reflection after your mentor meeting and a weekly reflection
  • Completed a self-assessment of the attitudes

Grade 6 Exhibition Week 3 – Finding and Collecting

Grade 6 are now into the third week of the PYP Exhibition.

By the end of the week you should have: 

·        Searched on a range of internet sites

·        Used print resources: books, magazines, encyclopaedia, atlases, newspapers

·        Made a phone call to a person and/or organization

·        Interviewed someone in person or over the telephone

·        Watched a video, documentary or news programme

·        Visited a place that is connected to your inquiry

·        Collected data for your survey

·        Written a reflection after your mentor meeting and a weekly reflection

·        Sourced your information in the back of your journal

·        Assessed your research skills using the rubric

Grade 6 PYP Exhibition Goals – Week 2 - Finding and Collecting

  

Grade 6 are now entering the second week of the PYP Exhibition.  All groups have now written their Central Ideas, Lines of Inquiry and questions (click this link to read the 2010 Central Ideas) and are finding and collecting information.

By the end of the week you should have:

 

  • Planned how you will find and collect the information to answer your questions

  • Sent a letter and/or e-mail to a person and/or organisation

  • Searched on a range of internet sites

  • Used print resources: books, magazines, encyclopaedia, atlases, newspapers

  • Contacted a relative/family friend

  • Thought about a place you will visit connected to your inquiry

  • Written a weekly reflection

  • Started to source your information in the back of your journal

  • Looked at the research skills rubric (teacher generated)

  • Had your first mentor meeting and written a reflection in your journal

The Grade 6 PYP Exhibition has started!

This week you will be working on the Deciding and Linking stage. You will decide on something that you are interested in that affects your life. You will then be helped to identify an issue connected to your interest.

Within each class we will look at links between your issues and then you will form into groups.

By the end of the week you should have:

  • written concept questions related to your area of interest;

  • written a central idea and lines of inquiry;

  • recorded what you already know about your inquiry;

  • written a rubric for your Exhibition Journal.

Meta-Cognitive Dairy

Your homework over the next week is to complete a diary of your thoughts.  Try to write down anything that you think about subconsciously in your mind.  Using these diary entries we should be able to identify some issues that you are thinking about but didn’t even realise it!

What is the PYP Exhibition?

The PYP Exhibition is an in-depth collaborative inquiry that starts from personal interest and passions, but extends into real world local and global issues. It is an inquiry that celebrates the transition from the PYP to the MYP, by requiring students to apply their learning from previous years.
