What is a three-way conference?

A three-way conference is a discussion, conversation or interview scheduled by the teacher to include the student and one or both parents. The teacher facilitates the conference and the student and parent(s) are expected to contribute equally.

Why do we have three-way conferences?

• To allow students to take responsibility for learning
• To provide parents with an opportunity to observe their child interacting with the teacher
• To provide parents with further insight into the PYP
• To provide teachers with an insight into family dynamics
• To ensure that everyone involved has received the same information at the same time
• To ensure that everyone has a greater understanding of a child’s progress and their goals for the end of the year
• To prepare for the Student-Led conferences in June.

What are the different roles during a three-way conference?

Students demonstrate what they know as they share their accomplishments and set learning goals for the rest of the year.

Parents find out about their child’s learning, have the opportunity to ask questions and express their ideas and help make plans to support their child’s learning at home.

Teachers facilitate the three-way conversations. They support the learners and the parents by clarifying, elaborating and responding to specific questions and concerns.

The Lines of Inquiry will be:

• Current or recent crises
• The impact of a crisis on a community
• Prevention and response systems

The architects showed the design of the new school and answered the questions. Everybody, including the teachers and architects were satisfied. Thanks a lot architects, from all of Grade 6.

AMSA’s trip was the first trip that we did in grade 6 so going there was very exciting! From school we got on the bus at 9.00am and went to AMSA (via Olgettina, 25).

As soon as we arrived there we met our guide called Riccardo. He gave us the opportunity to go inside one of the road sweeper one by one. They told us which buttons you use to make the sweepers sweep and how you could move them in different positions

Then, we went into a room where they showed us some videos about recycling and in which bin you should to put in different materials. We learned that inside the Yellow bin you put: plastic, tins, and polystyrene, in the White bin only paper, in the Green bin glass, and in the Black sack general waste.

Riccardo (the guide) told us that if we respect these rules, nothing except food can’t be wasted because it all gets recycled. It was fun to learn all of these new things and in a different way.  There was a magician whom made us learn these sorts of things in a very fun way. He had a “magic bin” which was a very special bin because when you opened it, it was empty, but when you said the magic words: “Riciclì, Riciclon!” different objects came out.

At the end we did a race where 3 people had a basket full of different objects and they had to get one at a time and run to put it in the right bin. It was great! I really enjoyed going to AMSA and I think I will never forget it…

The Lines of Inquiry will be:

• Chemical and physical changes
• Practical applications and implications of change in materials
• Ethical dilemmas associated with manufacturing processes and by-products

Remember to bring in any unused clothes that are still in good condition.  Every day Miss. Capon is collecting the clothes in her room and on Friday they will go on sale. 

All money raised will go to a local charity.
